Ode to Summer

This crisp Autumn morning

Came without warning

Well so long Summertime

You were truly sublime

New season is dawning

That is less warming

So farewell Summertime

I will miss your sunshine

Please do hurry back here

And come back next year

Now goodbye Summertime

We will see you next time

Rain in July

Cold rain in July

So cool and so clean

It makes you ask why

Or what it can mean

When things go so wrong

Yet still they go right

Like a sweet love song

On a lonely night

Affairs of the heart

Affairs of the soul

They tear us apart

And make us back whole

Like liquor and love

So bad and so good

These gifts from above

Don’t work like they should

These things that life brings

They make me ask why

We get such strange things

As rain in July

English Summer.

One layer, two, three, even more,

These you will need when you venture outdoors.

Better wrap up, July is here,

Dark rain clouds abound at this time of year.

Wait, what is this? Is that the sun?

We’ll wear rain coats and shorts before we’re done.
